Details: Great April Session
Hi
I have recently returned from a trip to Island Lake 12th April - 19th April 2008
Although the 1st few days weather was very bad with lots of heavy downpours it did pick up and I started to catch along with a few of my fellow anglers.
I believe in all we had a total of 24 fish, including 2 x 50+ fish, with another 5 lost.
This is a fantastic venue with a very helpful and knowledgable Ballif (Mick Hall).
There is now electric in a few of the cabins pegs (3/4, 5/6 and 7/8) along with 1 of the shower blocks nr swims 3/4 , 5/6 which makes life easier.
The cabins are suitable for what they are designed for and the showers were clean. Mick even took us for a tour of the shops available locally which saved us time trying to find them.
I managed to catch the follow all beating my UK PB (which is 38:14)
Mirror 39.01
Mirror 39.12
Common 40.00
Mirror 41.01
Mirror 41.05
Mirror 45.14
Mirror 46.04
Although this is by no means a runs water a little bit of work in finding the right spots and the patience to sit on your hands (48hrs +)the fish will come over a small amount of bait. I was only using a small amount of Hallibut pellet and 6 freebies (Baitworks Atlantic Heat 15mm doing the buisness )
I have attached pic of the above fish
Regards, Dave Bodman

Details: catch update
Mick Hall (Bailiff) reports.
The first weeks catch report consisted of 8 x 40's including a 48lb mirror and a 42lb common. Along with 2 x 30's. This really shows the quality of the water where the average weight well exceeds 35lb. No weed showing on the venue and very cold weather last week.
This week so far (now Mon am 14th April.) 2x 30's 1 x 40 and 1x 51lb mirror out so far with temperatures steadily improving.

Details: Luck of the Irish ?
When Richard Pietrowski booked Island lake 21st to 28th April exclusively for his group of Irish anglers. He told them it was not an easy water and not to expect too much! Island Lake is great for experienced anglers but often too hard for the novice.
Richard's group proved this conclusively last week! The boats on each swim make the placing of bait a simpler task & this definitely helped, but it was the skill of the snglers that counted!
They had a total of 41 carp out in the week
2 x upper twenties...
30 x 30's
8 x 40's (several around 49lbs)
1 x 54lbs
Oh and a bream over 10lbs too!
The quality simply speaks for itself!
Photo's to follow.
