General comments: On arrival Bruno (the owner) was very honest and pointed out that the fish were Spawning and the lake wasn't fishing too well. After finding a spot about 40yds out from my swim (no 4) I caught consistently through the week even when most others around the lake struggled. The fish were all in fantastic condition and the Commons put up the most amazing fight. The Sturgeons pull you all over the lake too!! I would definitely go back to Long Lake and would definitely recommend as a lake which is not an easy water but with a bit of effort can give good rewards. oh and the mobile bakery which comes round every day is brilliant!! All in all a great week and after my 4th year of using Angling Lines I will definitely be back next year.

Venue:  Long Lake

Date of holiday: 17-05-2008 to 24-05-2008

No. of persons fishing: 3

Brief details of your catches: We had 37 carp and 2 big bream. 11 over 20lb to 27.2. A total weight of 651.13. All in very good condition, and real fighters. One of the fish was my first ghost common of 20.12. We caught almost 3 common for every mirror. The mirrors were the hardest fighting mirrors we have ever caught. We booked swims 10, 11 and 12, but Bruno said it easier to fish 9, 10 and 11 together as 12 is a good way off, and we like to fish together as our trips are about the social as well as the fishing.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Find a spot and keep the bait going in. We caught on Quest Rahja Spice, Quest Irish Cream and Maple 8 for the first half of the week, We then caught well on giant corn and tiger combo. Possibly due to the amount of maize and hemp we used for baiting. Bigger boilies caught better than small.

Were the facilities what you expected? Better

Were you happy with them? Very

Would you recommend the venue to a friend? Yes, already have

Would you recommend our services to a friend? Yes, always

General comments: This was 3rd trouble free trip with Angling Lines.... cheers Bridget, pass on our thanks to the rest of the team. You can get your bread and pasties out of the van that comes round every day but monday, you will be missing out if you don't. We had no problems with the other anglers on the lake, and the owner is a really nice bloke. He does not speak English but it was not a problem. We had such a good time, we want to go back next year to get a sturgeon. Cheers Bruno, see you next year!! See our article for more info.

Brief details of your catches: Commons of 36.8, 30.8 and 26.0, mirror of 36.8, sturgeon 30.0, 29.8, 29.2, and 28.0. 20 other carp mostly doubles.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Margins (Peg 7 and 8 fished) best fished by both anglers frompeg 7 as you can cover moreof peg 8 margins. Rosehips (snowman style) over pellet and hemp.Fish did come from open water at peg 8 but only after a good bed of bait had been laid down. Bait boats very useful but not essential.

Were the facilities what you expected? Yes, better

Were you happy with them? Yes

General comments: At present this is a definite runs water but if you keep the bait going in a bigger fish will turn up. Belgian "weekenders" were a noisy problem, but not overly so. The bakery deliveries were a boon. Only a small shop nearby.

Name of customer:  Paul Cooper

Venue:  Long Lake

Date of holiday: 27-04-2008 to 03-05-2008

No. of persons fishing: 1

Brief details of your catches: 49 carp in total, with 16 twenties to 28lb 2oz, with the rest averaging 17lb to 18lb.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: On my arrival at the lake I initially plumbed the whole of my swim and located an area ranging from 12 to 14 foot depths. Having chosen my fishing area, I initially spodded out around 4 kilo's of hemp and around 200 shelf life Quest Rahja Spice and Liver B8 20mil boilies.Following the capture of each fish I spodded out around 10 spods of hemp and a further 40 to 50 boilies. Each evening I would wind in the rods in order to rest the swim.I recast around 6.30 am the following morning. I then baited heavily and again 10 spods and the same amount of boilies after each fish capture. I am certain that the resting of the swim allows the fish to feed on the remainder of my bait over night, giving them confidence to return during the day to once again get their heads down. This is a tactic that I have used for years of fishing in France, and the results speak for themselves.

General comments: Most of my fish were caught prior to Wednesday evening which coincides with the arrival of a group of Belgian anglers calling themselves, "Team Belgium". They occupied a number of swims around the lake and due to the amount of lines in the water and their lack of watercraft, the fish stopped feeding. I would class this lake as a runs water with the potential of some anglers averaging over 40 carp in a weeks session. ***** NOTE FROM ANGLING LINES **** The owner appologises for the behaviour of the Belgian anglers & assures us it will not happen again.

General comments: The lake was nice, still doing work on some of the swims because when the lake floods some swims are underwater, there is not much cover from the sun if it get's hot as the trees are only small, so you will roast fishing there in the summer, road round lake is only 3/4 done but is ok, shower & toilets are very good and cooking & dinning area is also very good. One word of warning, we had a load of Belgium anglers and there wives turn up on the wednesday and all i can say is that the piece & quite was shattered, thay made so much noise, they don't know how to talk quitely !!!!,you have been warned !!!!

General comments: Arrived on Saturday, weather hot and sunny!! Chose swim 5, depth was between 20 and 23 feet!!! no features anywhere, so fished in margins. Sunday still hot, i fried, if going in summer take plenty of sun block!!! as there is no shade. The owner is planting trees, but they will need a bit of time to grow. Monday to Thursday the weather was crap, heavy rain, cold and gusty winds blowing straight towards me, spent most of time in bivvy!!! Wedneday morning a small Belgium village turned up!!! complete with wifes, kids, dogs, search lights and a generator!!! They obviously can't talk quietly as all they do is shout even if they are a couple of feet apart, or from one end of the lake to the other!!!! They also need lessons in using bait boats.
