Swim improvements complete...

Long Lake bankside work completed.

Anyone who has visited France in the last couple of season will be aware of how wet it's been. I guess its been pretty much the same in the UK also.

This has had several unforeseen consequences on a number of lakes regarding water levels. Flooding is a fact of life around lakes and rivers, but usually this is confined to winter and early spring and is usually of only minor inconvenience to the carp angler. I say usually because the last couple of seasons have seen flooding lasting much later in the year and causing problems as late as May.

Long Lake was a case in point, where the water levels rose with the water table as usual, but due to the volume of water and the constant rain, didn’t drop as it always had in the past.

The owner, Bruno Pallain, set about improving the swims to make sure that if it did happen again all the pegs would be fishable.

Over the last few months he has undertaken wide scale work on the banks of this attractive 12 acre gravel pit to raise the bankside level all round. To date this has been completed on all bar peg 1. However, this swim will also be finished before the coming season.

Pictures to follow.

Regards, Gareth

Long Lake: Great week for the Video

Great week for the Video

Anglers Jim Kelly and Paul Copper had a great week on this new venue for 2008. The guys certainly got amongst the fish, and provided some excellent footage for the Angling Lines video vault and forthcoming DVD.

Using Quest Baits Liver B8, Rahja Spice and Special Crab they managed over 50 fish including some immaculate carp to over 30lb and three hard fighting sturgeon the largest of which topped 60lb.

You can read full accounts of their sessions: http://www.anglinglines.com/docs/ourvenues/lakes/longlake/feedback.html

And Watch the video : http://www.anglinglines.com/docs/videozone/longlake/index.html

This prolific and picturesque runs water is set to be a popular destination for 2008.
