Maurepaire was a lake that often appeared in the UK carp magazines a few years ago. It was run by Dave Payne and many of the UK’s top carpers fished there and had stunning catches. After Dave left, the owner Patrick Bachelier, one of France’s most respected fish farmers, closed for a year before re-stocking. He re-opened it in 2006 and we were delighted when he asked us to act as his sole UK Agents.
Mr Bachelier re-stocked with 500+carp ranging from 15lb to 55lb, including two 50’s, sixteen mid-40’s, around 320 fish from 25lb to 40lb, and approximately 100 fish up to 25lb. Excellent stock levels that are reflected in the catches. Here’s a couple of examples;
15 carp to 45lb, smallest 18lb. All beautiful fish in top condition.
Mr Banks, May 2007.
Mirrors of 43lb 8oz, 40lb 4oz, 40lb 1oz, 32lb 4oz, 19lb 13oz. Common of 39lb 10oz. It was quite obvious that if the conditions are right the fishing would be brilliant! Thanks Angling Lines for yet another good holiday.
Richard Sheppard & Barry Jess, May 2007
28 Fish in total, mostly mirrors to 36.08. Commons to 30lb and two grass carp, best 36lb.
Mr Gorman, June 2007.
We don’t need to add much more to feedback like that … Maurepaire is definitely back!

Maurepaire is an established 30 acre lake set in its own secure grounds and lying in a rural region near the Orient Forest in Eastern France. It’s open from the end of March to the middle of August and can be reached from Calais in around 4 hours.
The lake is relatively long and thin (100 to 200m wide), with eight comfortable swims for a maximum of 12 anglers. Several pegs are wooden pontoons, the others wide, gravelled pitches. Access is possible by car to six of the swims, but your car must be returned to the car park after you've unloaded. The track goes as far as peg number 6. For 7 & 8 you’ll need a barrow - it's a walk of about 100m. It's a fairly open lake, so unfortunately there's little shade if it's very hot. Good, clean facilities are located in farm buildings adjacent to the lake and include shower, toilet and washbasin.
Depth is around 2m in the centre with a mainly silty bottom. Features include lilies at the far end, reed lined banks and an old river bed running down the centre. Baitboats are allowed and a lot of fish are taken from the far reed lined margins using them.

The fish stocks consist of some 450 carp ranging from 15lb to 55lb, including two 50’s, sixteen mid-40’s, around 320 fish from 25lb - 40lb, and approximately 100 fish up to 25lb. Take a look at the feedback and you’ll see that these fish are not too difficult to tempt if you apply yourself.
For example Kurt Steers & Andy Reeves fished here in May 2006 taking a total of 6 x 40's, 16 x over 35lbs and 11 x 30's under 35lb. Here’s what he had to say;
“We also lost 3 huge commons at the net – these carp were absolute powerhouses. We had 38 carp on the bank in total and did not weigh anything under 25lb”
And this is by no means exceptional!
