Chantecoq - France
One of the most famous of all the French public lakes is Lac Du Der Chantecoq. It's the largest man-made lake in Europe, which when full covers over 12,000 acres. Forget any pre-conceived notions about fishing this lake English-style as it's a massive sheet of water and the fishing conditions change constantly according to the water level and the weather. It is however a very prolific carp fishery, containing a huge head of carp to over 60lb. Thirties are present in vast numbers and it must have one of the largest populations of forties in any French lake. Without doubt, if you're looking for your first 40lb carp, then Chantecoq is a lake which will give you an excellent chance.
