Trio of Forties from Large Lake

Hi all
Just had word form Christophe at Roseau of a trio of big fish from the Large Lake.

Martin Rose from Stockport banked three forties on a water that is better known as a prolific runs water. Using Richworth KG1 boilies mirrors of 49lb 4oz, 44lb 10oz and a 40lb Sturgeon fell to his rods. These fish came in a slower than average week when a number of carp were spawning.

New Facilities

Hi there
I've just been over to le Roseau in northern France to take a couple of photos of the new toilet and shower facilities that the owners have recently had installed on the venue.

In the past for such a large venue, one shower and toilet was clearly insufficient. The owners Christophe and Aline have taken on board our comments and added two more toilets and two showers to give a total now of three separate installations.

This will improve the comfort on the venue markedly for visiting anglers this year. The new block consists of two separate rooms both fitted with excellent power showers and their own W.C's and washbasins. They are in a separate building to the original facilities that remain in use.
There is also an area for preparing food and eating should anglers wish.
One word here though, please spare a thought for the other users on the venue and the cleaners and leave the facilities clean. There is a squeegee for use to mop the floor.

New Shower Block & Lake Work for 2008 season....

I visited Roseau in early March... the rain was horizontal as gusty winds swirled it around making conditions extremely tough for any angler. After nearly 3 months of none stop rain pretty much across most of France the lakes were brimming over the top with water and I could have opened a mud spa on the banks!

NEW SHOWER BLOCK - I had called in to check on the progress of the new facilities at the lake and discuss the coming year with Christophe and Aline the owners. The new facilities involve 2 extra toilets and shower rooms on site. I must say I was impressed!

The plumbing and shower cubicles were all in and the only bits left to finish are the decoration and tiling. It will make a real difference to the anglers. It's planned these showers will be open during the daytime leaving the original toilet & shower open throughout the night.

WORK ON THE LAKE - Christophe showed us some of the work he has undertaken on the lake itself.

Last year when the fish shoaled up around the back of the island in the deeper water, they were easily cut off by anglers fishing on the pegs to the far end of the lake. In effect this part of the lake was a dead end.

Work has now been undertaken to dig out the far side of the island giving deeper water all around. This means the fish can now circulate all around this area and move back out into the main part of the lake more easily.

Furthermore the margin area in front of pegs 1 to 6 has been de-silted to give it extra depth.

These modifications should help the lake become a more even fishery, avoiding areas where the fish can get trapped or held on a baited area.

THE FISHING - One angler there at the time was very happy with the facilities of the old toilet block! He had been washed out literally by the conditions and had sensibly adapted the little porta-cabin shower room into a new bivvy, it’s little heater being a god send (these were certainly the actions of an older and wiser man!) Unfortunately though he was definitely not going to catch from there! Was he bothered? – funnily enough no…

He took great pride in the fact that he had come out solely to bring his grandson who was ‘keen as mustard’ and was still out there… I looked out into the squall.

"Has he caught?" I asked. Well yes, he’d had a few… including a 27lb, 37lb and a 40! I wanted to meet this young man who clearly was in the ‘Ray Mears category’ for survivalists – so I thought I’d walk around and take a look.

Was he huddled under a brolly? Clinging to his bivvy? Mad as a hatter? … No he was stood out with his rods open to the wind and rain -constantly by the rods and changing his tackle and tactics. A rod beeped stronger than the rest and somehow he knew which one to pick up (they were all beeping in the wind). His wet face came to life as he struck into the fish and his mate ran for the net. Only a bream this time but watching him made me realise (and I really should say something profound at this point) but some people are just plain mad! Just how ‘into’ his carp fishing must he be to do all that with a smile…

I rewarded him with a bag of the new Quest Liver B8 bait before I left very grateful to get back into the warm car and beat the living daylights out of the elements with the windscreen wipers instead. I wonder how he got on with that?

Roseau Magic!

Hello David,

As promised I have included a selection of our best catch photographs from our trip to Roseau.

We really had a fantastic time for our first trip to France, I caught 549lb in 4 days and my 14 year old son Dane caught 467lb. We also travelled with a mate (Dave) and his 13 year old son (Jamie) both had only ever been fishing twice before, although they did not catch as many fish as Dane and myself, Dave set his new PB at 30lb and Jamie 27lb.

My catch record, 11lb, 16lb, 17lb, 2 x 18lb, 2 x 19lb, 2 x 20lb, 22lb, 2 x 23lb, 26lb, 2 x 27lb, 28lb, 29lb, 32lb, 35lb, 38lb, 40lb & 41lb.
Dane's catch record, 17lb, 18lb, 3 x 19lb, 21lb, 22lb, 2 x 25lb, 2 x 26lb, 3 x 27lb, 2 x 28lb, 29lb, 31lb & 33lb.

Let me know if these photographs are ok for what you want although I go on holiday for 2 weeks from Thursday 12th.

A Record Week! 252 carp for 2.75 tons!

We think this must be the record catch at Roseau - unless you know different?

Gerry Holmes & his 4 mates took 252 fish for a total weight of 2.75 tons! 19 x 30's (biggest mirror 36lb, common 34.08), 125 x 20's (average around 26lb).... 3 x grassies to 22lb...... 5 x sturgeon to 25.08. Only one single figure fish!

Successful method was boilie or tiger fished above a bed of hemp... baitboated out.

We're used to big bags at Roseau but this is exceptional!

Muddy... but fantastic fishing!!

Christophe at Roseau has just contacted us. After a week of non-stop rain he's saying the banks are very muddy.... but the fishing has really turned on! Both the Small & Large lakes are returning fantastic catches. In one night the Small Lake produced a 48, 47 & a number of back-up 30's... the Large Lake 2 x 39's, 37, 35, 32 & a stack of high 20's. Apparently there's a buzzer sounding every 10 minutes or so from one or the other lakes.

Increase in lake size

The Roseau has long been one of our premier runs waters. Carp tallies from this venue have been absolutely phenomenal over the last few years.

The owner Christophe, with a view to improving the comfort of the anglers on the bank, has dug out the back end of the lake behind the shooting hut, thus increasing the size of the lake by about two acres. This area now represents the deepest part of the lake and should be around 6 feet when the water reaches its normal level. The shooting hut now forms an island, linked to the bank by a foot bridge, but will be out of bounds to anglers.

The pegs have been modified so that there is more space around the venue. The swims will also be marked more clearly. The total number of anglers on the large lake will be 14 for 2006 - see the map. Further alterations to the bankside have seen the Fir trees that separated the large and the small lake cut down, opening out the venue considerably. The size of the lake and number of pegs on the small lake remains unchanged.
